A soccer player in Peru died and several others were injured when a bolt of lightning struck the pitch during a local match between Juventud Bellavista and Familia Chocca on Nov. 3. The deadly strike, at Coto Coto stadium in Chilca, sent players falling to the ground as they were leaving the field after play was halted.

Jose Hugo de la Cruz Meza, 39, was killed instantly as he fell face first after the strike.
