Pantene Releases New Sulfate-Free Version of Gold Series Shampoo | Allure

Nov 06, 2024

Earlier this year, Pantene made waves with the launch of its Gold Series, a hair-care line aimed at folks with kinky, curly, super-textured hair. And while people were loving it (especially the advertising, which featured a diverse range of black women with all different kinds of hair textures), there is always a way to make a good thing even better. And now, the brand is doing just that with the release of its new Gold Series Sulfate-Free Shampoo.

The shampoo is due to hit shelves in January — so you can keep that New Year's resolution to stay away from sulfates and not have to switch out your favorite 'poo. The product is also free of parabens and silicones, so it's a triple whammy if you're the type of person who prefers to stay away from such ingredients. The rest of Pantene's Gold Series line is sulfate-free, it's just that now the shampoo is joining in on the fun.

On the hair, you still get that amazing cleansed-but-not-stripped feeling. I used the shampoo as part of my regular hair-care routine and spoiler: I still have it in my shower. Lately, I've been shampooing before deep conditioning, and then using a regular conditioner after washing out my DC. As I've been trying out this technique, I notice that some other shampoos I've used have left my hair a tangled mess, and I have to do some serious detangling as I apply my deep conditioner. Not with this one. As I smoothed my DC in my hair and finger detangled, I was pleased to find that getting rid of any remaining snags was a breeze. Oh, and my hair felt really, really soft, too.

The Gold Series Sulfate-Free Shampoo contains argan oil, which is known for its conditioning properties. My hair loves argan oil, so you know it was drinking that stuff right up. The 'poo is also amazing to use with the brand's already sulfate-free Repairing Mask, which I used just this weekend. It was just the thing to add an extra boost of moisture to my hair, which was as dry as an overcooked chicken breast.

Really, when I think about it, it should come as little surprise that this shampoo would work beautifully on my 4a/4b texture, as the entire line was created in collaboration with black scientists, dermatologists, and hairstylists — basically, people who really know their stuff when it comes to highly textured hair.

Pantene's new Gold Series Sulfate-Free Shampoo is dropping in January 2018, so get ready to make it a permanent addition to your hair-care stash.
